About VIP Ladies & Kids
VIP Ladies & Kids is a community‑rooted second‑line organization dedicated to preserving the cultural heartbeat of New Orleans while uplifting the women, children, and families who make that heartbeat strong. As a 501(c)(3), the organization blends tradition, mentorship, and community support into a vibrant network of programs that honor the past and invest in the future.
At the center of VIP Ladies & Kids’ mission is the preservation of second‑line culture — the music, movement, craftsmanship, and spirit that define so much of the city’s identity. Through hands‑on workshops, cultural education sessions, and year‑round artistic activities, members learn the history and significance of second‑line traditions. Elders and culture bearers share their knowledge of suit‑making, beadwork, umbrella design, and parade preparation, ensuring that these art forms are passed down with care and authenticity.
Youth development is woven into every aspect of the organization’s work. Children and teens participate in mentorship programs that use art, dance, and community involvement to build confidence, discipline, and leadership. Whether they are learning to bust their first bow from a spool of ribbon, practicing parade choreography, or helping plan a community event, young people gain a sense of belonging and pride in their cultural heritage. VIP Ladies & Kids creates safe, supportive spaces where youth can express themselves creatively while learning the values of teamwork, respect, and responsibility.
Beyond cultural programming, the organization serves as a stabilizing force for families. VIP Ladies & Kids provides outreach, resources, and community support to households facing challenges, connecting them with services and offering a network of care. Family‑centered activities encourage parents and caregivers to participate alongside their children, strengthening intergenerational bonds and reinforcing the idea that culture is something built together.
Each year, the organization’s work culminates in its second‑line events — joyful celebrations that showcase the artistry, dedication, and unity of its members. These parades are more than performances; they are public affirmations of resilience, identity, and community pride. Through these events, VIP Ladies & Kids continues to uplift neighborhoods, inspire young people, and keep New Orleans’ cultural traditions alive
